Does Recurring Palpitations In Children Indicate Underlying Heat Issues?

Hi, the teacher of my 7yo son told me this morning, that yesterday he had very fast hart beat and was quite unsettled. He said, that he felt as if his heart would jump out of his chest. The same happend today, when she rang me to tell me the same thing. He has no chest pain. He has been taking dexamphetamine for his ADHD for the last six months, but never had these heart problems before. Could it indicate any heart problems?

Thank you.

Pediatrician, Cardiology 's  Response
Hello Gina
Recurrent palpitation may be due to transient arrhythmia. Palpitation as a side effect of dexamphetamine is less known.
So I would suggest you to consult a pediatrician for clinical evaluation and he may need investigations like electrocardiogarm(ECG) or holter monitoring.
Investigation like thyroid profile may also be needed sa hyperthyroidism can present with this symptoms.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Definitely you should get an advise from an expert in the field of cardiology. As your son is already ADH such palpitations due to anxiety is common. After exercise, or exertion your son could have felt racing heart beat. It is possible that your son obsessed with it and called you to tell it. After getting expert cardio opinion, please consult a psychologist for therapies.
