Does Rice Cereal Cause Obesity, Diabetes, And Allergies?

My son had a baby 2 weeks ago his wife s grandmother is having them feed him rice cereal and I am concerned for the babies safety. I told my son they should ask the pediatrician but her grandmother says I am paranoid. Can you please advise me on this matter and let me know any risks involved with this. I have heard this can cause obesity, diabeties, and allergies.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Babies should be given exclusive breast feeding until 6 months of age. Until then, their digestive system is not mature enough to digest other food items, and breast milk is enough to supply the necessary nutrients. Rather than obesity, diabetes or allergy, it can cause feed intolerance and indigestion.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
