Does Shingles Vaccine Cause Tinnitus And Hearing Loss?

Hello, I woke up last week and had lost hearing in my left ear. Not only loss of hearing but i am experiencing whooshing sounds and tinkling, like the sound of wind chimes. I also have had severe joint pain in the last few days, and a sore gland on my neck, right side. I had the shingles vaccine last week and wondered it the hearing loss was a side effect but I was told that it was not. I appreciate your time...thank you! Cindy

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, in up to 80% of patients it may subside with mild fever with local site pain.

In 20% patients it may lead to fever, cough expectoration or arthralgia, hearing problems etc.

You can take rest, use pain killer and anti inflammatory drugs like steroid or NSAIDs.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
