Does Sinus Venosus ASD Need Immediate Medical Attention?

my daughter has been told she has a possible sinus venosus ASD and are waiting for a cardio appointment to get more answers. the hole is apparently 14mm. Should we be pushing for an immediate appointment and should i worry if she gets normal childrens illnesses in the mean time

Hi,

Nothing to worry. It is not at all an emergency. There is no need of immediate appointment. You need closure of the defect but not on an urgent basis. Intermittent illnesses will be just like normal children, except that if develops a pneumonia it may take a bit longer to get resolved- so keep her away from people with fever, cold and cough. See your doctor if she develops the same symptoms for early treatment of respiratory infections. I also strongly recommend pneumococcal vaccine for her.
