Does Slow Blood Flow To The Calves Cause Dark Discolouration?

I take care of my 95 year old grandmother. One week ago her calves turned dark purple. She is totally bed bound. Hospice says it s due to her heart pumping too slow to make the blood flow properly. A friend just told me her mother s legs did that and within a couple of days she died and that my grandmother has to be ready to pass. I m wondering if that is true.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Discoloration of limbs may be due to peripheral vascular disease like DVT or Thromboangitis obliterans. In DVT there's is thrombus formation in cough lead to pulmonary embolism lead sudden death. Please take her to doctor he will do scan of legs and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
