Does Sore Throat, Bad Cough Indicates Inflamed Tonsils Or Bad Throat?
My son has high fever since yesterday, sore throat & bad cough. He is 10 & 1/2 yrs old, weight 27.5 kg.Doctor has given half tablet pacimol 650, 1 & 1/2 tab of pecef 100 in morning & 1 tablet of the same at night. In addition Ascoril D for cough. He says its a throat infection & will clear out after few days. My query is are these inflamed tonsils or simply a bad throat? Is it a viral or a bacterial infection? I am worried as the fever is high grade, ie. 103. Even after pacimol the fever wont reduce much...please help clarify...worried mom
Hi, It seems that he might be having acute pharyngitis or tonsillitis. On clinical examination one can say about tonsillitis or pharyngitis but symptoms and treatment remains same. This infection might be viral or bacterial but it is better to give antibiotic medicine because if it is bacterial infection there might be spreading of infection causing lower respiratory tract infection. So continue with antibiotic medicine. Within a day or two its effect will start and he will feel relief. Go for warm water gargling. Avoid giving fried, chilies and junk food. Give him plenty of water and keep him well hydrated which will help temperature go down. Ok and take care.
