Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. My mom starts to take azithromycin, I think to avoid getting bronchitis, starting every February. And every February, March, April, and May she has horrible constipation problems. She wanted to know if there are steroids in azithromycin that could cause this problem??
General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Azithromycin is an antibiotic. It treats different kinds of bacterial infections. It is generally well-tolerated and does not contain steroids. However, like all medications, azithromycin can cause side effects in some people, including gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Constipation is not a known side effect of azithromycin. However, other factors may be contributing to your mother's constipation, such as changes in her diet, decreased physical activity, or other medications she may be taking.
It's important to talk to your mother's healthcare provider about her symptoms and any concerns she may have. They can help determine the cause of her constipation and recommend appropriate treatment options. In some cases, adjusting the dose or timing of medications or making changes to diet and lifestyle may be helpful in relieving constipation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
