Does Taking Loritab Throughout Pregnancy Cause Any Side Effect?

How common is it for Loritab to b prescribed throughout a pregnancy in Nevada? Are doctors not afraid of backlash for the negative effects that a baby may experience short (withdrawal requiring medication/methadone) and longterm (behavior and learning problems...)

Hi,

Thanks for posting in HealthCareMagic.

Lortab (Loritab) contains a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Both the composition are pain killers. Hydrocodone is an opioid (narcotic) pain medication. It is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

This medication has to be used with caution as it may be habit-forming, even at regular doses. MISUSE OF NARCOTIC MEDICINE CAN CAUSE ADDICTION, OVERDOSE OR DEATH.

FDA categorizes this drug in pregnancy as 'category C' - Drug should only be given during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk. Babies born to mothers who have been taking opioids regularly prior to delivery are known to become physically dependent.

Hope the information provided would be useful.
