Hi, I am a 54 year old woman. I take triamterene HCTZ every other day, usually in the morning right before breakfast. It was prescribed by my doctor because I had fluid retention and slightly elevated blood pressure. I ve been on it fir about 3 months and haven t had any issues with it until now. Tonight I took my pill around 5 pm just before I went to the gym to work out, because I missed my dose this morning. I had not eaten since lunch. While exercising on the rowing machine I had a brief dizzy spell, probably no more than 30 seconds. I stopped for about a minute, then resumed, going a little slower. I finished a few minutes later, went to the bathroom, got a drink of water and went back to working out (moderate pace, about 110-120 heartbeats per minute.) I had no more problems and feel fine right now. My question is, was the dizzy spell a result of taking the triamterene at an odd time on an empty or nearly empty stomach right before working out? Or is there something else going on? Thanks! Elaine S.
