Does Taking Antihistamines Affect The Thyroid Enzyme Count?

Does taking anitihistamines or OTC's such as Tylenol P.M. effect the thyroid enzyme count, compromising lab tests? My cousin has recently undergone radioactive "killing" of the thyroid, but has difficulty sleeping and sometimes needs help. But he does not want to interfere with good lab results when he goes in for evaluation of his thyroid's condition in two days.

Hello
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

The thyroid tests are necessary if you have symptoms or signs of an overactive or underactive thyroid gland. These tets are also used to monitor the treatment of these conditions.

Insomnia can be a short-term side effect after Radioiodine Treatment .But don't worry,it will disappear soon.

Medicines that may affect the thyroid test results are:Amiodarone,Dopamine,Lithium,Potassium iodide and glucocorticoid medicines.

-The antihistamines and Tynelol TM do not affect the thyroid hormones lab test results,so your cousin can take this medicines without problem.

Hope i have clarified your doubts.
If you have other questions, feel free and ask.I will be happy to help.
Wish you good health.
