Does The FTA-ABS Test Result Indicate Syphilis?

Over the past 10 years I ve taken RPR tests for sphyllis and they came back non-reaactive. My dr. said I didn t have it. Over these years my symptoms are getting worse and random and I ve been tested for Lyme, Lupus etc all negative. Therefore we did a FTA-ABS test and it came back abnormal , does that mean I have sphyllis for sure? He s going to to a TPPA test now. I have three children born in California in 1990, 1993, & 1999. Don t they legally test your children & you at childbirth automatically for spyllis? I m freaked out please shed some light? Thank you

Hi,
RPR negative and FTA-ABS positive means that there is no active infection. Specific test for Syphilis, once positive means remain so for ever as a serological scar, even after a complete cure of the disease. Syphilis was either got aborted or got treated with the drugs taken for syphilis or for some other ailments. Nothing to worry at all.
