Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello doctor, My son who is 1.5 years old was bitten by a neighbours pet dog today on his face.the bite itself is not deep...no bleeding, only skin abrasion..possibly a category 2 bite. The dog itself is vaccinated and the owners have the records for it. We gave first aid within 10 mins by washing with soap and applying Dettol. Do I still need to get my son vaccinated? Can we wait for the observation period of 10 days for the dog?

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Arun's Response
There is subtle chances of developing the rabies to the son. because the abrasion is on the face. any bite on the face are itself dangerous. so without waiting for 10 days for observation you should start the vaccination on safe side. so taking the vaccination is not a harm for your child and even it is not that much costly it is freely available in your nearby govt hospitals.
