Does The Forehead Tear Causing Swelling And Headaches Need Medical Attention?

one week ago yesterday, I split my fore head open on a low metal roof.....got home, eventually got the bleeding stopped....area is still a bit swollen, but now, the main trouble is the headaches....they seem to be getting worse, not better....so, if I did suffer a concussion, would headaches be getting less by now..? I am a very active 66 year old male....is a trip to the local er advisable ? thanks, Bruce

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is good that you are conscious and oriented after head injury. The pain and swelling may persist for few days. It will subside on its own in 10-14 days.

The concussion or mild head injury resolves on its own. At home, you can follow few tips
: Avoid pressure at injury site
: Apply cold compresses at injury site
: You can take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: You can keep your head at higher level than chest

If still no relief, you can consult doctor. He might advise CT scan head after evaluating you. CT head will rule out any bleed in brain or fracture. Further management will be decided after CT report. Fracture is usually managed by medical treatment while bleed may require surgery.

Thanks. Hope it will help you.
