Does The Lump Caused By Head Injury Need Medical Attention?

My 5 year old son received a nasty hit on the head about 2 months ago. He had a really large bump that turned black and blue. The coloring has gone back to normal but there is still a little bit of a bump that is tender to the touch. How much longer should I let this go before seeking medical attention?
