Does Tubes Help In Avoiding Recurring Ear Infections In An Infant?

My eight month old has had 6 ear infections in the last 4 months and is scheduled for tubes in 8 weeks. She has had a cold for the past week, and yesterday and today has a fever, trouble sleeping and is irritable. I m assuming she is getting another ear infection. Will getting tubes put in help with all these colds and fussy nights or are the two unrelated?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

In the vast majority of cases, tubes greatly decrease the risk of ear infections. Colds will still occur. But ear infections are more rare.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Eric Goldstein, Pediatrician
