Dog Bit A Child. Swollen Area And Stitches. Normal?

My three year old son was bit by our family dog yesterday around dinner time. The dog snapped at him and got him on the cheek and near the eye. We took him to the hospital and he received stitches. The doctor told us that it would probably be swollen the next day. It has been swollen for the entire day and we were wondering how long we should expect it to be swollen and if this is normal. We have also been giving him Advil and applying an ice pack throughout the day. Any suggestions?

Hi, Katie,
Thanks for query.
I would suggest you to give antibiotic medicine course along with Advil.
Due to swelling on the part, antibiotic is a must as there are all chances of having infection.
Ok and bye.
