Dog Bit Hand. Was Bleeding. Dog Is Vaccinated. Do I Need To Take Rabies Vaccination?

Hi there,

My dog bit me today on my hand (palm) one of his tooth bite was deep & i was bleeding. I washed my hand with saline water & dettol & also had tetanus injection. My dog is vaccinated ( recent shot was given on nov 12 ) with anti rabies. My Veterinarian said rabies vacc is not required but just for your satisfaction you can have butmy physician said to have a rabies vaccination taken at least 1 shot out of 4. Do i still need to take a anti rabies injection? Please advise. ( i am an Ankylosing spondylitis patient as well.)

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Since the dog was vaccinated it does reduce the chances of transmission of rabies but it is important to remember that the vaccine does not work completely in all animals and there is still a small chance he is not completely immune.

Because a small risk does exist, it may be best to visit your doctor for assessment and for at least 1 injection.

I hope this helps
