Dull Ache In The Chin,discoloration Of Gums. Oral Cancer?

I m a smokeless tobacco user of 11+ years, a can lasts me four to five days. My lower gumline, in front, doesn t show signs of the white-puss cancer pics I see on the internet, but I have noticed that my gum has an ache to it. My last dentist visit, about five months ago, reflected no signs of cancer. I do have another appointment coming up just for a cleaning and reevaluation. My question is really what are the earlier signs of cancer? My gums are pink, but do have a dark discoloration to them - but I can t tell if that s just because light isn t reflected properly. I ve also noticed a dull ache in my chin , right past the bone, what could that be? Thank you for your time.

Hi, usually oral cancer will present with white to dark brown patches,ulceration,firm to hard swelling over the buccal area inside, and sometimes teeth fall. Usually gum pains are due to infections. Patient may get neck lumps in oral area cancers without any obvious lesion in your mouth. Anyways, best is to quit any form of tobacco and not to wait till cancer develops. Take care.

Thanks for asking the query,

Pain and discolouration of gums indicates severe infection of the gums known as Gingivitis.
Oral cancers are associated with chronic use of tobacco chewing consists of white to dark patches, ulcerations, lumps in the oral cavity and firm to hard swellings.
I would suggest you to get a checkup done by the Dentist , take an OPG radiograph , x-ray along with biopsy report will give the exact diagnosis.
Quit the habit of tobacco chewing, start taking antioxidant tablets.
Go for symptomatic treatment of complete mouth scaling, polishing and root planing.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

A thorough clinical as well as x-ray evaluation is necessary to rule out the cause of toothache.

Get deep scaling done.

Pus has to be drained and curetted.

Apply gum tone gel on the affected site.

Swish with chlorhexidine mouthrinses.

If symptoms persists,biopsy of the lesion has to be done.
