Elbow Injury, Pain. Applied Ice Pack, Taken Arnica. Need X-ray?
I fell off a chair hitting my left arm above the elbow extremely hard on the seat of a plastic chair. Put in sling with ice pack immediately with ice pack for an hour then several hours later for another hour. Took arnica drops and applied arnica cream for 2 weeks. The bad bruise has gone but there is still some pain in the area of the bruise 5 weeks later. Shall I go to my GP for an X-ray? Gail Brooke new zealand
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The persistent pain even after two weeks of the injury might be due to a bone injury. Only a physical examination and X-ray can confirm this. Do consult your physician for the same. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. Regards, Dr. Praveen Tayal , drtayal72@gmail.com
Generally, soft tissue injuries will heal uneventfully within 3 weeks. As you injury is 5 weeks old and you have still pain at the site of injury, there could be a bony injury.
An xray of the injured area will show up any fracture. MRI scan is necessary to diagnose any soft tissue pathology.
So, I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for a detailed evaluation and further management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
