Excessive Use Of Ventolin. On Thyroid Replacement. Feeling Discomfort In The Chest And Throat. Is It Normal?
I am on Ventolin and have been for years but find I am using it a lot more in the past year +. I have also been on thyroid replacement for a year and a half. That was the time I noticed I was having to use my ventolin more often...can the two be connected..I used to use my puffer only as needed during allergy season...I now find I need it every morning and night (2 puffs). Using it this much, I find my throat and chest feels raw and I lose my voice. Is this normal when using a puffer that often.
Hi, Thanks for posting your query. With the available described details, there could be possibility of Ventolin induced dryness in throat. As such there is no interaction between ventolin and thyroid replacements. You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ chest physician and should go for thorough check up. You should also go for repeat spirometry and thyroid function test. You should avoid cold drinks, oily food, cauliflower, cabbage, and capsicum. There could be possibility of acute exacerbation of bronchial asthma with chest symptoms. You should take ventolin along with tiotropium for relief of your symptoms. Take care, Dr. Mayank Bhargava
