Feel Flat On Back, Suspect Breaking Tailbone, Taking Tramodol. Spotting With Clots. Should I Be Worried?

I had a total hysterectomy, robotic, laproscopic almost 3 weeks. Everything has gone great. I had a garage sale the last 3 days with lots of moving around and on my feet. Was sitting in a lawn chair and it broke. I fell flat on my back on the garage floor. I think I broke my tailbone and have been taking tramodol for the pain (left over from my surgery- didn't take it after hyster). Today I started spotting with some clots - haven't bled at all. A little worried. Should I be?

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

It looks from the description that you might have suffered injury to the COCCYX (tail bone piece). This pain arising out of coccyx is termed as COCCYDYNIA. This condition is self limiting and usually resolves spontaneously within 3-4 weeks.

An xray is mandatory to rule out a fracture of coccyx

In the mean time, to lessen the pain, the following measures have to be taken -

* Sit completely upright with proper posture — keeping your back firmly against the chair, knees level with your hips, feet flat on the floor and shoulders relaxed

* Lean forward while sitting down

* Sit on a doughnut-shaped pillow or wedge (V-shaped) cushion

* Apply heat or ice to the affected area

* Take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil)

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
