Feel Outer Thighs Bruised, Painful On Slight Pinch, Do Exercise, Weightlifting

My outer thighs ( 6 to 8 inches above my knee) feel bruised. There are no marks, bruising or anything - it just feels like it. If I lightly pinch the area ( mind you there is a little celulitus there) it is extremely painful. I am a 57 year old woman, walk and/or jog two or three times a week and lift weights ( lightly) once or twice a week. I am not overweight and in good health otherwise.

hi,
thank you for your query,

you may have sustained minor injury to your thigh.hence the symptoms may not be showing yet.
it can be a muscle sprain or pull,or just minor catch

you can start with
1.applying hot compress to the area, and also muscle relaxant creams to the affected area.
2.take rest.
3.avoid exercise like jogging etc till the area recovers

you should be up and about within a week
thank you,
wishing you good health

General & Family Physician Dr. B. Vineet Mohan's  Response
Hi,

It is clear that you have cellulitis in your thighs. Cellulitis is caused by staph aureus bacteria. This bacteria infects the layers just under the skin and the pain is severe. What you need is to get a magsulf dressing. Along with this you need to start an antibiotics which will clear the legs of the infection. Before starting any treatment please consult a surgeon so that he is able to start you on antibiotics and do the dressing. Also, maintain hygiene so that you do not get repeated infections of this sort. Wish you the best.
