Feeling Need To Sleep During Day, Tiredness. Occurring From Teenage. Advice?

I sleep well but am tired all day, consistently needing to sleep during the day. It is affecting my work and relationships as I am unable to function effectively unless I sleep and then I still feel tired and not 'with it' I am unable to mentally control the tiredness and 'shut down' often during the day. I have been dealing with this tiredness since my late teens.
Is there anything I can be prescribed to help me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Daytime sleeping generally occurs in people suffering from obstructive sleep apnoea. These people are heavy snorers in night.Other causes could be hypothyroidism, diabetes, lack of VIT D,lack of VIT B 12 etc.
Get yourself tested for these and also get your POLYSOMNOGRHY ( sleep studies ) test done.
Consult an internal medicine specialist for examination and investigations.
Thanks

Hi
The symptoms are suggestive of narcolepsy. It can be treated by imiprmine, modanafil or methylphenidate. The best is modanafil which is non sedating and non habit forming. Consult a good psychiatrist to get appropriate medications
There are behavioral methods as well

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us
Sleep deprivation is a general term to describe a state caused by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep, including voluntary or involuntary sleeplessness and circadian rhythm sleep disorders.

Suggestions on how to get more sleep include:
Purposefully go to bed earlier each night.
Don’t smoke or drink alcoholic or caffeinated beverages in the hours before bedtime.
Improve your sleeping environment in any way you can – for example, keep it dark and sound-proof, turn off lights and wear earplugs if you have noisy neighbours.
Don’t have any distractions in the bedroom such as TV or a computer.
Use relaxation techniques to help you fall asleep quickly.
Seek professional assistance for sleep disorders such as snoring.
Regards.
