Feeling Of Obstruction In Back Of Tongue, White-yellow Crust On Tongue. History Of H. Pylori And Fungus
I feel like something is stuck in the back of my tongue . I live in Brazil and I ve had this aweful sensation for about 2 years, i usually rush my teeth and tongue every night before going to bed, and when I wake up I feel my tongue covered by white crost-yellowish tongue. I went to the gastrointeriologyst and to the dentist and otorrino doctors and all of them said that it was normal, but I do not accept this answer for I hava lived all of my life well and this began to happen only two years ago. I had H-pylory treated and this sensation appeared afterwards. I had received also treatement against fungus but none ot them have worked. Doctor, do you know that this might be?. I´m sincerely grateful for your answers. sincerely yours, Batista dos Santos
Hello there, there are various reasons for the tongue pigmentation. It can happen with food you eat,the way you clean your tongue, the medication you take or because of any underlying systemic condition. Since your doctors have already seen you, there's shouldn't be systemic cause. When your mouth gets dried up very fast there is a white layer that forms which gets discolored by the food you eat. Consume lots of water. Please specify if you see red spots after you clean your tongue which is indicative of fungal infection (oral thrush). Otherwise don't worry. For further clinical evaluation consult a Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.
Hello,
Thanks for writing in.
I read your query,i thinks there could be following causes of white/yellow tongue-
1.problem with liver/gall bladder,although it is rare.
2.Smoking
3.dehydration.
4.mouth breathing,etc......
So i will suggest you visit your physician and the complete examination done and take a proper treatment according to the cause.
You can follow few things-
1. Take plenty of water.
2.Quit smoking,if you hae.
3.Maintain good oral hygiene.
4.Take crunchy foods like-popcorn,broccoli and apples,etc....
Nothing to get worried.

Normally also there is white coating on the tongue and due to this we have clean the tongue daily and it can be done by tongue scrapper or soft brush. Normally it is difficult to clean back of the tongue. So you have to gentle clean it . You can try floss also to clean it. Antibiotics can cause thrush but that will go after you have finished with antibiotics.

-Systemic disease for which you need to go for complete diagnosis.
-Candidiasis that's a fungal infection due improper oral hygiene
-Xerostomia due to lack of salivation
-Smoking habit
You need to get it ruled out by your history & symptoms & get it treated accordingly.
You also need to use tongue scrapper to clean your tongue & maintain proper oral hygiene.
