Fell From Stairs, Having Troubled Back. MRI Showed 4 Protruding Discs. Suggest
i fell Down the stairs a few yrs back and I've been having trouble with my back ever since, I had xrays taken and was told there was nothing wrong, I just had an MRI done of my back and it showed that I have 4 protruding discs, can you tell me long term speaking, how much damage has this injury caused my back physically?, And can my physical lively hood be restored?
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Simple disc protrusions without any compression of the nerve roots is not a major problem to panic. Definitely you can be physically active for performing your activities of daily living. Follow the below mentioned guidelines - * Cut down your weight, if you are obese * Quit smoking * Avoid lifting heavy weights and bending forwards * Physiotherapy for strengthening the back muscles * Intermittant pelvic traction if needed * Using a Lumbosacral support
Hope this helps
