Fell On Leg. Area Above Knee Cap Is Swollen And Painful. Should I See Doctor?

hi there, i had a fall on my left leg on thursday night, just below my knee cap, kinda the top of my shin, the hard plate bit. well i feel like there is fluid and the area is swollen and i pressed it against something today and the pain was crazy. it feels very nervy to touch and pins and needles kinda down to my foot. i hit my leg very hard off a stair edge and i fear it may be broke or chipped or something if that is even possible? im thinking of going to hospital but dont no if its a waste of time, what do you think? thanks

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain and swelling in the area above the knee cap after the fall is likely to be due to a soft tissue injury or an injury to the internal structures of the knee. Confirmation can be done on MRI scan.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
