Fever, No Appetite, Runny Nose, Tiredness, Cold Sores, Zovirax, Pale, Irritation Under Eyes, Treatment

My 8 year old daughter has been sick for a week & a half. With on & off slight fevers, no appetite , runny nose, very tired all the time. She has a very bad breakout of cold sores so the doctor put her on Zovirax and said to put her on a good multi vitamin & vit D as her immune system is weak. She has been very pale the past few days & almost yellow looking. Tonight her face is very pale and yellow with very red irritation under her eyes. Any thoughts??? I am planning on taking her into a walkin tomorrow. I don t think I m overreacting. She looks terrible.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi Ken
Your history about redness in your daughter's eye is not very clear. However since she has viral infection(with your history of fever/running nose/Zovirax) my guess is that her eyes are also infected secondarily.
You can keep her comfortable with cold compresses 3-4 times a day and with a good lubricant eye drops and an antihistamine decongestant eye drops 4 to 6 times a day . Visit an ophthalmologist at the earliest to rule out secondary bacterial infection and corneal involvement so he can decide on starting antibiotic/ antiviral eye ointment if needed.
Take care.
