Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Fever With Abdominal Pain, Lost Appetite, Bad Headaches For A Active Child. Given Ibuprofen. What Else ?
My daughter is 8, is active in sports and eats very healthy fresh foods. 48 hrs ago she started complaining of abdominal pain, only 99F temperature, but napping on-off last couple days, not eating much. Tonight she is complaining of bad headache, fever 102.6F,and only still stomach pain. Ibuprofen 2 hours ago has lowered fever to 101F. Emergency room?
As your daughter's fever has been increasing for the past 48 hours and abdominal pain is persisting she needs to be examined by a doctor to know the cause of fever and pain. The location of the pain and any association with food or any vomiting will tell us more about the possible cause. Ibuprofen will just reduce the temperature transiently and is not the solution. If required she may have to be investigated further.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
You can give Tylenol or Ibuprofen in prescribed dose for fever and headache.
Give plenty of oral fluids to maintain hydration status.
Monitor her temperature, activity, and hydration status and if you find any deterioration in these, consult emergency.
If the child is active and her hydration is good, you can consult the pediatrician for physical examination to look for any focus of infection and its management.
