Freezing Cold, Had Shivers Uncontrollably, Body Tremors. Was It A Seizure?

Recently I awoke in the middle of the night freezing cold and shaking uncontrollably from head to toe, in a very warm apartment. All of my muscles were tense and I had to take a hot bath to make it go away. Just tonight, I walked outside of my apartment into the fresh air and the same thing happened. It felt like a full body tremor or some kind of seizure. What could cause this?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Shivering or tremors of whole body, without loss of consciousness can be caused by fever, or when exposed to cold. It cannot be a seizure, as in a generalized seizure (characterized by shivering of whole body), there would be loss of consciousness.

A seizure generally lasts for a few minutes (often less than five minutes), and prolonged generalised seizure would result in prolonged and deep loss of consciousness.

You can get tested for any infection, and thyroid problems, if symptoms persist.

I hope it helps.

Best wishes,
