Frequent Weakness And Dizziness, Difficulty In Urination. Family History Of Diabetes. Cause?

I do feel weak and seem to be getting dizzy quite often. Diabetes runs high in my family and I am overweight . I have all the signs. That and it appears that for the last few days I can t pee enough. Waking up at night even. However, I do drink a lot of fluids. Is this something that I should see my doctor about ASAP? Or, should I take a blood glucose test and see what is going on?

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
As you have positive family history of diabetes, you should go for blood sugar both fasting & postprandial.
Increased weight with excessive abdominal fat interferes with insulin and available insulin is not able to work and glucose is not utilized.
This increased sugar level may cause multiple complications such as effect of kidney, eyes, heart, increased chances of stroke.
Constipation may also be a complication of diabetes.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist and should go for thorough check up.
Hope that helps.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
