Hello, I keep getting really bad breath constantly, even after I brush my teeth or not eat anything for ages. There s white stuff over my tongue, I bought a tongue cleaner and scrape it off for ages and it still won t go away fully, and then the next day it s gotten worse again. I m not sure what it is called and how I can treat this. Thanks

Hello,
white tongue is because of the food deposit along with other debris in the mouth. while brushing and flossing the tongue should also be cleaned regularly. It can be cleaned by the brush or the tongue cleaners avalable in the market. tongue can also be cleaned by using dental floss from backward to forward but while cleaning tonuge you have to be very gentle otherwise you can injure the tongue.Antibiotics can cause thrush but that will go after you have finished with antibiotics.

hi and welcome,
After reading your history i suspect you are suffering from oral candidiasis. It is fungal infection often leads to formation of white patches on oral mucosa and white coatings on tongue. it is mainly caused due to xerostomia , that is dryness of mouth due to decreased salivary secretion. Few antibiotics may also lead to fungal infections.
exact diagnosis can be made only after clinical examination so i suggest you to get it evaluated by a dentist, if it is candidiadis it can be cured by medication.
If tongue is coated with other debris and deposits from food ,it can be cleaned easily with tongue scrapers and tooth brush.
hope this helps you , take care

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Bad breath is usually caused due to poor oral hygiene maintenance.

Get thorough scaling done by a dentist.

Maintain oral care.

Brush and floss your teeth as well as tongue daily.

Use chlorhexidine mouthrinses to gargle.

If symptoms persists, please do visit an ENT specialist too.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical symptoms i suppose that you have developed fungal infection in your tongue known as oral candidiasis, this can occur due to dry mouth, diabetes.
I would suggest you to visit to an Dentist and get an clinical evaluation done, if it is oral candidiasis can be succesfully treated with the use of medications.
If this are simple depositions on the tongue can be removed by regular use of tongue scrapers.
You maintain a good oral hygiene .
Use antiseptic mouthwash rinses.

Hope this helps out,
Regards..

Dentist, Periodontics Dr. Palvi 's  Response
hi...
thanks for the query...
as you have non scrapable white deposits on your tongue, so i would suggest you to visit any oral pathologist for proper clinical examination and diagnosis...
because it can be hyperplastic candidal infection or can just be hyperkeratosis of taste buds...
so please go for its proper treatment after proper diagnosis...
bad breath should subside after that...
if still persists then, it can be due to oral, ENT or medical problems...
visit your dentist for complete oral examination... sometime, grossly carious tooth is the source of foul smell... in that case it will require restorations...
or due to presence of plaque and calculus... and inflamed gums and deep pockets... in that case it will require proper scaling and root planing...

brushing twice daily with pea sized tooth paste will help... make sure that you brush your teeth AFTER MEALS instead of before meals... rinse after every meal... also use tongue cleaners...
if still persists, consult general physician to rule out any metabolic disease... consult ENT specialist also...

hope it will help you...
take care...

Hi,
The white coating on the tongue may be due to dehydration or fungal infection of the mouth that is due to decreased immunity.
That can be treated with Nystatin oral drops with each drop on each side of the mouth 04 times a day for 07 days.
There is nothing to worry about it will respond to oral drops.

I hope I am sucessful in solving your query If you have more you can ask me.
Take care
Regards,

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
White tongue leading to bad breath i.e, halitosis is caused due to sulphur producing bacteria which is present on the surface of the tongue and throat. This can be treated by thorough cleaning of the tongue with tongue cleaner and brushing and flossing the teeth twice every day. Sometimes halitosis could be because of any respiratory infection also . See your dentist to rule out the exact cause for the bad breath.
Hope this information helps you.
