1. Get your blood pressure down with weight loss if necessary, regular exercise and sodium restriction. If still elevated, take medication. 2. Identify any other treatable risk factors for the complications of high blood pressure (HBP, or hypertension) , which are principally cardiovascular (heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, multi-infarct dementia) and correct those. That would include an elevated LDL cholesterol, a low HDL cholesterol, diabetes and cigarette smoking.
