Had UTI Before. Taking Ciprofloxacin. Noticed Blood In Urine. Uinalysis Report Meaning?

Good day Doc! I've had UTI before, but i think the last time i did it was a year and 9 months ago. I went on ciprofloxacin (2 x a day / 7 day drug therapy) and it went away. But last time I had a little blood in my urine and it burned when i would pee. This time i only felt it when i was peeing 2 hours ago and now the pain has increased a lot and there's blood and more than i remember last time. I had intercourse with my husband yesterday and im also on my period. I felt like I had to urinate all the time I got the following results in my urinalysis and this is my day 1 of menstrual cycle: Color: Yellow, Transparency: Turbid, Reaction: pH = 6.0, Specific Gravity: 1.020, Glucose: Negative, Protein: +4, Leukocytes: +4, Nitrite: Negative, Urobilinogen: Negative, Blood: +2. Microscopic Analysis: Pus Cells: TNTC, Red Blood Cells: 20-30/phf, Ephithelial Cells: Few, Bacteria: Many, Mucus Threads: Few. Doc can I hear some advise from you or interpretation about the result of y urinalysis? thanks in advance Doc!

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

I have gone through your history as well as your current report. Below are the most relevant parameters from your urine analysis:
-Pus Cells: TNTC-- Too Numerous To Count', indicates that you have an infection for sure
-Bacteria: Many-- Confirms the infection, and the infection-causing organism is of bacterial source
-Protein: +4-- This could indicate some underlying pathology. I advice you to get your liver and kidney function tests done, along with an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis

Please visit your doctor and get a urine culture examination done as well. As you were on ciprofloxacin the last time you had a UTI, the potency of ciprofloxacin could be questionable. Please get this investigation done, as it would help in finding the most suitable antibiotic to treat your condition. Please also further investigate the presence of protein in your urine.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The interpretation will not be correct - because the specimen is contaminated by blood from the period.
Give a specimen for culture and start on ciprofloxacin again - if necessary, it can be changed, when the culture results are available.
Repeat the urine routine after a week for proper analysis
Ultrasound is necessary to see Kidneys, ureter and bladder.
Follow up with an Urologist
You have not stated your personal habits, family history or co-morbidities, even age...which could have an influence on the diagnosis and outcome...Diabetic?

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
