Had A St Judes Valve Replacement, Past Operation Of Ascending Aorta. On Inhibace, Eltroxine. Have Body Swelling, Can T Walk. Alternative Medicine?
Hi I recently had a St Judes valve replacement November 2012, past operation in 1992 repair dissection of ascending aorta. 205 bariatric surgery, mediction to date inhibace, Eltroxine, Warfrin, Omeprozole, Metoprolol. At present I have swelling of my body, I recently was able to jog up to 1km with ease but now I find it hard to even walk a short distance without having to stop and catch my breath, can you advise if there is an alternative medication to the Metoprolol without such harsh side effects
Hi, As you have highlighted, you have undergone major surgery for your heart condition with the purpose to prevent, delay or reduce heart failure. The symptoms you present are much in line with heart failure. So you contact you doctor immediately for solution. It is possible that they could be side effects of Metoprolol. Even in this case, considering your conditions, you doctor (surgeon) is the most appropriate person to advise you alternative drug (which do exist). Once again, contact your doctor soonest.
Wish you good health, Dr Rogers
