Had A Large Ganglion Cyst, Swelling, Pain, Tendon Sheath Release. What Is The Problem?

I had a large ganglion cyst removed from inner right wrist area a year ago - still had pain and swelling to the area. 2 months ago I had a 1st compartment tendon sheath release...... Right wrist is still swelling, painful upon movement and constantly aching with loss of strength to do daily tasks. What could be the problem?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

So, you have two distinct clinical entities for which you have undergone surgery - Ganglion & tenosynovitis of 1st compartment.

The pain in your wrist could be due to recurrence of the Ganglion cyst. I suggest you to get MRI scan done to rule out the possibility or to know other existing pathologies.

In the interim, use analgesic & antiinflammatory medicines, Ice packs to relieve pain, elastic compression bandage to resolve the swelling & avoid overusing the wrist joint.

Consult your treating doctor for further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
