Had An ACDF Surgery With Decompression, With Artificial Bone Graft Done, Burning And Pinching Pain. Suggestion?

Hi, It will have been three years this April since I had ACDF surgery, with decompression.I had an artificial bone graft done. Since the surgery, I kept going back to the doctors and he just kept telling me, one more summer, wait one more summer because the heat will have a major impact on how you will feel. Well, it s been almost three summers and I am still in a lot of pain every day. I have a burning, pinching(like a clothes pin) pains 24/7. I will not go back to that quack , enough is enough, I need some guidance of what to try next.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Generally, ACDF (anterior cervical decompression & fusion) yields excellent results.

As you are having pain along with burning sensation, there could have been some compressive element left out.

The other possibility for persistent pain at the operation site is INFECTION.

So, you need certain blood investigations & xrays of the cervical spine to ruleout infection.

An MRI scan is needed to evaluate other causes.

I suggest you to consult a spine surgeon with good reputation and follow his advice accordingly.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Spine Surgeon Dr. Phani Kiran S's  Response
Hi. Its pretty unusual to have that kind of pain after ACDF. Unless there is any implant prominance, or due to any other local cause. It will be helpful if I can see yur xrays. Consider seeing an ENT specialist also.
