Had Emergency Fistula Surgery. Got Inflamed And Infected. Suffer Pain. Inserted 4 Seton. Suggest?
hello, my husband had emergency fistula surgery 3 weeks ago. he traveled to the mid east and it was unknown to us what his problem was. while he was there he became so inflamed and infected, the dr did an immediate surgery. he has two fistulas, one on right and one on left side of anus. the dr inserted 4 setons. im assuming 2 draining, and two cutting. the dr said to tighten the setons every 2 to 3 days. he is in terrible pain, and cannot handle the 13 hr plane ride home..can u give me some info on possibly getting him a different treatment that is not so painful? can he stop tightening the setons just to get relief and come home. then see a dr here in the states? please help, i feel so helpless. any suggestions would help. thank you
Your husband is treated with well known and quite old (but effective) method. However, nowadays there is an alternative. First of all he should have pelvis MRI to determine where is the fistula. He may have Fistula Plug inserted instead of setons. This plug aim is to close the fistula and let it to disappear. Colonoscopy should be also done to rule inflammatory bowels disease out.
Hope this will help. Regards.
