Had Fallen. Knee Buckled Inward. No Fractures. Have Pain And Swelling On Knee. Suggestions?
I fell about 6 days ago. My right knee just buckled inward. When I got up, my knee popped a few times. It was hard to place weight on that leg. I went to the doctor the next day and he did an xray. He said there are no fractures and gave me a brace. I am pretty sure I tore something but he told me to wait two weeks and come back. I am having pain, tenderness, and swelling in my knee. My right foot also goes numb at times. I am unable to bend my knee all the way nor straighten it all the way without severe pain? Could this be a tendon, ligament, or ACL injury?
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The persistent pain and swelling in the knee in spite of rest and using a knee brace one week after injury could be due to a ligament or meniscus injury. To detect any such damage,. MRI scan of the knee is the best investigation.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello and Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for writing to us.
From description it seems to be injury to ligament or meniscus as your xray are normal and there is persistent and severe pain. You need a thorough evaluation by an orthopaedic surgeon. MRI is required to confirm the diagnosis.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.

Any one - even more than one - of the possibilities, you have enumerated may be true.
Numbness of the foot suggests pressure on the nerve...
X-rays show only the bone
You need MRI for the soft tissue
Have an MRI / have a second opinion...?
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
