Had Hysterectomy, Oophorectomy, Rectocele And Cystacele All-in-one Surgery. Experiencing Bloating, Lack Of Luster. Recovery Time?

This is week 3 of my recovery...I had a 4 in one surgery. Hysterectomy, oophorectomy, rectocele and cystacele (sp?) anyway...I had a really good day 2 days ago...felt good, sat up most of the day, crashed about 4PM and have felt pretty bloated, tender and basically lack-luster ever since. I have to climb a stair case, to get to the kitchen and family. I have been doing that since day 1 of my home recovery. How long will I be feeling like staying near my bed?

Hi,
Climbing stairs is considered as exertion and this should have been avoided so soon after surgery. Ambulation along a plane surface would be okay. Since you have been feeling discomfort for the past couple of days, I would ask you to consult your gynecologist for an opinion. Perhaps they would want to check if the wound is healing or if any pressure is building up inside. Also, your vital signs should be monitored. Most often, it would be simple gaseous distension but it is always wise to be cautious post-operatively. Hope your query has been answered. Take care.

Infertility Specialist Dr. Dattaprasad's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Whatever you are experiencing is due to loss of estrogen in body due to oophorectomy. It may take time to recover, which depends on patients health (both physical & psychological) before surgery. Better option to fasten recovery is to take estrogen replacement therapy (HRT) in consultation with your physician if you have no contraindications for it. If you are already taking HRT, recovery may take upto 6 weeks.
Wish you speedy recovery.
