Had Protected Sex Right After Periods, Started Bleeding Again With Clots. Is It Mid Cycle Bleeding?

Hello, the last time i had my period was February 8th to the 14th. I had protected sex with my boyfriend February 17th. On February 24th we were having protected sex and the condom had blood on it. It is now the 28th and I am still bleeding . It comes out every once and a while as a liquidy dark brown/dark red color with clots sometimes. I don t know what is going on. I have had irregular periods so I m thinking maybe its just mid cycle bleeding? My cycle is usually longer than 28 days.. 40 days sometimes. Can you explain what you think this bleeding might be from, maybe rough sex?

Hi,
From the description, the possibilities are either trauma, mid-cycle spotting (in which case clots are rare) and hormonal disturbance. As your cycles are irregular, it cannot be predicted if you are exactly mid-cycle. I would ask you to see a gynecologist for a physical exam followed by a complete hormonal profile as well as a pap smear and a trans-vaginal sonogram. If local causes and trauma can be excluded, you need to be investigated for a probable miscarriage (rare) and hormonal disturbances and treated accordingly. Hope this helps.

Hello ma'am.

There are many reasons for intermenstrual bleeding out of which one of the less common reasons is sexual intercourse and possibly as you put it, even rough/aggressive sexual intercourse.

But along with a history of irregular periods you now have two symptoms, which raises cause for concern and thus I would recommend a bimanual examination and a transvaginal ultrasound scan just so we know your symptoms are harmless.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

OBGYN Dr. Nilofer AR's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on health care magic.
Your symptoms suggest it might be your normal periods.
Duration of bleed anytime from 2-7 days is considered to be normal.
The bleeding should stop in a couple of days.
If it does not stop, consult Gynecologist to rule out other causes of bleeding.
Hope this helps.
regards,
Dr Nilofer
