Had Redness, Pain And Swelling On Foot. Diagnosed With Cellulitis Due To High WBC. Given Bactrium And Doxycycline

I've had redness, pain and swelling on my left foot for over a month. I was diagnosed in the ER as cellulitis due to an insect bite with no evidence of an insect bite, but due to a high WBC count I was given antibiotics. Bactrum for 7 days and Doxycycline for 20 days. Redness is now gone, WBCs are normal but ESR is high and swelling and pain persist, though not as bad. Ive been to the ER, my PCP, and a dermatologist... no more $

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
The most common cause of cellulitis is no doubt bacteria ,but why you got infection , that is cause of concern.
As E S R is non specific ,but still have importance ( however once infection subsides E S R usually take 3-6 months for its normal level).
In your case swelling and pain still present so don't take it as granted .
Get in blood for sugar & lipid profile , consult a surgeon and get his opinion & treatment .
Silver sulfadiazine cream locally helps.
Good luck.
