Had Rickets As Child, Got Genu Valgus, Now Adult With K-legs. Any Surgery Possible?
I had rickets as a child and had genu valgus as a result. I was to have a surgery when I was a child but it started to get better and so it wasn t done. But as I grew up, my legs worsened and I am now a young adult with K-legs, my right is worse than my left. I know as an adult, it might be a more difficult problem to fix than for a child. But I really want to know if there is any corrective surgery that can be done to fix my legs. I really want my legs to be straight. In my country, they can t manage my problem. So also which country do I need to go to get the surgery, if there is any, to fix my legs and how long will the rehab take?
You need a corrective osteotomy surgery to make your limb alignment straight. Generally, the osteotomies will take around 3-4 months to heal and till that time, you should not bear weight on the operated leg and should use a walking frame till solid bone union occurs at osteotomy site.
You can approach an orthopedic surgeon for a detailed evaluation and further management of your condition.
Lastly, your condition is definitely correctable and you can lead a normal life like any other person.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
