Had Stroke, Left Side Paralyzed. Regained Movement, Eating On Her Own
My mother suffered a massive stroke last week, she is 82 years old and the doctor indicated for us to consider hospice. Her left side is paralyzed and she is not conscious, any hope of any recovery, this is her second stroke, but the first was not massive and she was able to recover, not fully, but regained movement and was eating on her own. Please advise.

Had Stroke, Left Side Paralyzed. Regained Movement, Eating On Her Own
Hi, Thank you for posting your query. The chances of good neurological recovery is less after a massive and recurrent stroke. However, with good physiotherapy, it is possible to regain some lost functions, in her case, some strength of her left arm and leg can be regained. It is also important to prevent the third stroke. So, use of blood thinners such as aspirin is very useful. Best wishes, Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology) Senior Consultant Neurologist Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad
