Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

More information is required to pinpoint the cause. Problems may or may not be related to thyroid surgery, depending on the onset of your facial problems.

If facial problems started in the past 1-2 weeks, it can be due to inflammation of Facial nerve which supplies the affected facial area/muscles. Short course of high-dose steroids + anti-viral drug will cure it.

If it is an old-standing problem, problems can be due to injury to the facial nerve during thyroid surgery; or, a brain/brain-stem (the upper part of spinal cord which joins the brain) lesion. MRI of brain + brainstem is required to see for a lesion, if any.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me, order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable/modified treatment as advised.
