Hand Injury, Lump Below Thumb, Painful Movement Of Hand. Any Thoughts?

my son was in a fight and hurt his hand there is a rather large bump/lump below his thumb , on the pillowy portion of the hand.....he says it doesn t hurt to press it, and it s not very hard, but movement of the hand itself is painful...happened about 2 days ago....any thoughts? I m guessing time will heal, but thought I d ask

The lump below the thumb after an injury could be due to an injury to the tendon sheath or a ganglion. A fracture also needs to be ruled out after an X-ray since the area is painful.
