Hard, Movable, Red Irritated Bump Formation On Outside Portion Of The Wrist. What Could This Be?

Hi I have a bump forming on my right wrist on the outside portion. It looks like maybe where the end of the ulna meets the hand? It just started a couple days ago, but it is really irritated, red. I m on the computer a lot for work and this seems to be the biggest irritation. It s very hard, but seems to be somewhat moveable. Any thoughts on what this would be?

Hello,
Thanks for the question. It is difficult to give an exact diagnosis based on history alone. But the fact the history is of short duration(just 2 days),presence of redness and hardness suggest an inflammatory pathology.
Inflammation is a process by which our body responds to any foreign agent or stress. Here, there is dilatation of blood vessels along with oozing out of fluid and cells into the surrounding tissue. The dilatation of the blood vessel produces the redness and feeling of warmth and fluid produces the swelling. It could be due to many reasons like stress, infection of hair follicle etc.
Some hot fomentation along with rest to the joint may help bring down your discomfort.
Wish you a speedy recovery.

Hi,

It could be due to stress on the wrist due to computer use. Keep ice packs locally, take anti-inflammatory drugs like Tylenol thrice daily after food. Also, you can use a wrist brace or crepe bandage on the affected area. Limit the use of computer for a few days.

You should be fine soon.

Regards,
