Hard Painful Lump Above IV Site. History Of Being Treated For Bleeding Ulcer. Taken Off Aspirin And Ibuprofen. Can Tylenol Be Given?

Thank you Dr. Grief. My husband was in the hospital for a bleeding ulcer. He was released yesterday. Today there is a hard lump just above the IV site. It is over 2 inches long and about as big around as my little finger. He says it is very painful. because he has had a heart attack and 3 stints he has been taken off aspirin and ibprophen but can take tylenol. Is there anything else to do for the pain and is it dangerous?

HI,
From history it seems that your husband might have thrombophlebitis or having extravasation of blood from iv site.
Apply ice pack 2-3 times a day.
Go for one antibiotic medicine after consulting your doctor.
He can take tylenol for pain.
Ok and take care.
