Has GERD, Gall Bladder Issues. Taken Omeprazole. Done US, EKG. What Can Be Done?

My husband has been suffering with gerd for the past couple of months now with little relief. He has had an ultra sound to rule out gall bladder issues, upper endoscopy exam which showed very little redness, he's had several EKG's with normal results and was prescribed omeprazole. He has changed his diet and does all of the right things, eating several hours before bed time, taking meds an hour or more before eating etc. He describes the pain as chest pain. He even had a overnight heart monitoring exam. He's 36 years young so the doctor's aren't taking this very seriously. Any advice or other things to look out for?

Hello dear...
Gastro esophageal reflux disease, is caused by the reflux of acid from stomach to esophagus due to relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus.

Management consists of:
1. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised.
2. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
3. Medical management- Proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole, Pantoprazole, etc. (which prevent acid formation in stomach) Metoclopramide can also be used but it has some side effects on long term usage
4. Surgical treatment- includes Fundoplication, done when medical measures fail.

So, it will be better to consult a Gastroenterologist & discuss about the treatment options.
There is no need to worry...your husband will be fine.
Wish him a good health & speedy recovery.
Thanks & Take care.
