Hi My Wife has been to a neurologist, roumatologist, and a second neurologist for what started out as pain in her hands and joints. We have been at this now for about 2-3 months with no direct diagnosis to the cause. Over this time she has had increased pain in her hands, legs, joints and now back as well. Her hands and feet both swell to the point where she cant even get her rings off or on.. They have been trying lyrica, but the pain persist still. In the end he basically told her there is nothing more he can do for her. She is in pain, and I don't know where to go next... Help

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Fibromyalgia is characterized by chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain,
aching, stiffness, paresthesia, disturbed sleep, and easy fatigability along with multiple tender points.

This is generally a clinical diagnosis. Because no abnormalities will be found on xrays, laboratory investigations etc.

The treatment for this condition is as follows -
* Tricyclic antidepressants
* Benzodiazepine group of medicines
* Local measures like Heat, massage, injection of tender points etc
* Analgesic antiinflammatory medications

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
