Have Gouty Arthritis. Have Blood Clot In The Knee Cap. Suggestions

Hi Doc,
I m Jalal from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I m 36 yrs old. I hv got Gouty arthritis for the last 3 years and under medication from last 2 years but on & off. The truth is i do drink a lot and dont take my medicines (Esloric and Tolchicine) regularly. I had my last attack on my left wrist joint 3 months back and from that time i m continuing my medication regularly! Now, from the last few days i hv this blood clot on my knee cap which has no pain associated with it unlike the gout attack and the clot colour is almost black. I m just wondering what this could be as from the last three months i limited my drinking level as well. please advice...thanks.

Hi Jalal & thanks for posting on HCM
Excessive alcohol intake as worsen gout along with damage to other organ per se due to alcohol intake ( heart & liveR mainly)
It is good that you have reduced amount of alcohol & also have been taking meds regularly - I must suggest to get the blood clot checked as from your description it sounds like bruise underneath the skin over the knee cap area.
Also you should get blood test - liver function, blood count, clotting screen & uric acid levels.
Depending on size of clot & associated movement restriction if at all - Dr may need to drain it to get the fluid out
Hope this is helpful
